My name is Michelle Mohr

I am a textile and product designer and work with sheep wool from my region and from Germany. I focus on rare breeds of sheep and work a lot with natural colored sheep wool. My long experience with the material I knot into large and small rugs, felt pillows and “vegetarian” skins.

The theme of furnishings and materials has been running through my life since childhood. I simply enjoy bringing rooms to new life and bringing warmth, joy and tranquility to rooms with my products made of wool.

Knot by knot to unique carpet

After my first degree as a display designer in a furniture store, I decided I didn’t want to spend my life as an employee. I longed for more freedom.

After a lot of experimenting and studying design at the Weißensee School of Art, I did intensive product development and looked into alternative manufacturing techniques as part of my diploma thesis in 2012.

Based on the knotting technique used for friendship bracelets, I have developed a unique manufacturing process with which I could knot stable carpets. No machines are needed for this process, everything is created by hand at my work table.

Balance between calm and hustle and bustle

I often work alone in my studio. The balance to the rather quiet and concentrated work in the studio is provided by the cities where I travel for fairs and exhibitions. There is a lot of hustle and bustle and many contacts are made. This contrast makes my independent work very valuable to me.

Of course, there are also joint projects with others. We then organize joint exhibitions and work on selected projects. This is an enriching balance to the peace and seclusion.
