Against moths helps to vacuum, use and move. As a precaution, lavender sachets can be placed or neem tree oil can be applied (if you like the smell). Moth paper is also a possibility as a non-biological option. In severe infestations, beneficial insects, such as ichneumon wasps, can be used.

Surface friction

With natural wool products, it is a sign of being natural that lint will form over time. This so-called pilling is caused by surface friction and can be removed with a lint razor or by plucking.

In “superwash” finishes or “anti pilling” in clothing, the scales of the wool fiber are filled with synthetic resin or similar, or removed with chemicals. This helps to avoid that the wool pill. So it is not a sign of good quality when wool does not pill, but that it has been chemically treated. This also applies to “mothproof” or other additional properties that wool does not naturally bring.

Tips for washing and cleaning

Light soiling can usually be removed with a little soap and a sponge by dabbing. Pillowcases can be washed cold in the wool wash program. Then pull into shape and dry lying down. The carpets can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner on high.

Care large carpets

Vacuum regularly on a high setting. Also, if possible, vacuum the back from time to time. Regular turning and rotating can distribute loads more evenly.

For spot soiling, dab the stain with a damp sponge and mild soap. Depending on the size of the area to be worked on, a towel can be placed under the carpet to avoid damaging the floor with moisture. With a towel, the wool can be dabbed dry directly afterwards. To dry, if necessary, leave a towel under the carpet and replace it regularly until dry.

Seat cushions and small rugs

For light soiling

Regularly knock out seat cushions and carpets and vacuum thoroughly (high level).

For spot soiling, dab the stain with a damp sponge and mild soap. With a towel, the wool can be dabbed dry directly afterwards. Dry lying on a clothes horse. A dry towel can be placed underneath if the seat cushion or small rug is still very wet.

In case of heavy soiling

Hand wash: dissolve mild soap in lukewarm water in a sink (or tub), soak the seat cushions in it for a few hours or overnight. The next day, wash with lukewarm water and soap. Only dab, do not rub. The seat cushions can also be washed in the shower or tub, in a tub, then the shower can help clean and wash them out.

After washing, rinse clearly and leave to drain for a few hours lying e.g. in the sink. Then squeeze carefully and let dry lying on two thick towels on a clothes horse. Change the towels in between. When the pillows are almost dry, you can also put them on the heater.

If a spinner is available, you can try to spin out the pillow. Be sure to keep the cushion all the way to the bottom and spread out well, otherwise the heavy cushion will damage your slingshot.
